There is this stigma towards female menstruation. Society has conditioned us to believe that a female bleed is a shameful, dirty or undesirable process. Well — This stigma will end today as you read this article.
Women are cyclical beings.
Just like the moon — we go through phases. In fact, women go through four phases each month and menstruation is one of those seasons per lunar month. Menstruation is a gift that we experience as women and in this article I’m going to tell you how embracing our cycles of womanhood can not only transform our lives but also guide our lives.
When we embrace our feminine nature and our cycle, the coming and the season of menstruation becomes a beautiful process versus a dreaded mess. We will experience a great surrender and find peace when we come to understand the deeper meaning.
The science behind menstruation
Estrogen and progesterone levels are lowest during this time and the uterus is shedding its inner lining. We are also preparing an egg during this time that will be used during ovulation to prepare our bodies for conception. Our bodies are using 80% of our energy on menstruation alone. Subsequently, are immunes system are lowered increasing our chances of getting sick and increasing our symptoms from current illnesses or underlying health conditions.
Some holistic health practitioners believe that this is the true cause of “PMS” and that these underlying conditions are increasing the physical symptoms we feel due to the lack of energy our bodies have to fight them. No matter the cause, menstruation is a good time to take vitamins, practice immune support and eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, leafy greens and proteins to support our bodies.
Our energetic season
The season during menstruation is our Inner Winter Phase!
This truly is a time for SURRENDER. During this time we are not only cleansing physically but energetically we are releasing and letting go. What a blessing it is that our bodies are taking the initiative to guide us through a process of releasing all that which no longer serves us. This time is a gift for us my friends. Next time, you are feeling really emotional or overthinking believing it’s anxiety from “PMS” know this — Your body is working really hard to bring things to the surface and you are releasing a lot. This can bring feelings of heaviness or sadness. This is a natural and expected feeling. You may feel it physically too as headaches or body aches.
Do you feel extra vulnerable during this time? You should, because energetically women are very open during this time. We are open to release but we are also open to receive so we may be more susceptible to other peoples energy. Do your best to stay away from negativity during this time and surround yourself with people you love and trust. Do you feel like you need to cry or do you feel deep frustration? That is okay too because you are going through a process of great purification. These emotions need to be brought to the surface to be released.
how can we find inner peace during this time?
Be compassionate with your body. Now that you have an understanding of what is really going on with your physical and energetic body you can be understanding of the process. Accept and surrender to all that you feel. It is okay to want space from others, to want to be alone, to want to express yourself but be gentle. This is not a time to be critical or unkind to others while blaming it on “PMS”. Don’t project your emotions — ACCEPT them as yours and only yours.
Do not be scared to step into your feminine during this time.
The process of menstruation needs to be honored by your feminine nature. Nurturing, compassion, surrender, receiving and flowing. It is okay to slow down, to take the extra time to rest, have a bath, self-reflect and to receive support from other women or from the masculine. The masculine energies in your life should be there to give and to support you. This can be your friends, family or a partner. Allow them. All of this FEMININE does not make you weak.
It makes you strong because you are choosing to align with your feminine, cyclical nature as a woman.
I know society has conditioned us in the masculine way that says, “JUST DO IT or GO GET IT” and it is okay to embody this mentality at times but do not force yourself to do so. Please listen to your body during this time. Some women feel intense energy day 3-5. If you feel it, use it! Always EMBODY your power but just make sure it is authentic to you.
How can we best support our bodies during Menstruation?

- A diet rich in leafy greens and vegetables like spinach and asparagus. Fruits such as apples and black grapes and proteins such as red meat and black beans.
- Vitamins such as Zinc, Magnesium, Licorice Root, L-lysine, Vitamin B-12 and Vitamin D-3.
How can we naturally relieve menstrual cramps?
- Cinnamon is my absolute GO TO for natural and fast acting cramp relief! Fresh sticks or cinnamon powder both work the best. I specifically use this cinnamon powder in warm milk and this is the most effective for me.
- Chamomile or Kava Tea. These teas work wonders to naturally relax our muscles and female organs.
- These two are absolute musts for severe cramping: A hot compress from HomeTop and Magnesium Glycinate.

It is your birthright as a woman to choose to fully align with your moon time and your seasons. To embrace your cyclical rhythms. Be gentle and compassionate with yourself sweet woman. Your body is your companion. Say thank you to your body when menstruation comes to bless you. Surrender to your tides and to your flow. This is what makes us woman. This is our power.
