The story of age tells us that since birth, we grow “older”. But if our souls are eternal, is it just our physical bodies that are “aging”? Some of us have old souls and young souls that are not defined or aligned by our physical age. Rather, it seems to be some innate wisdom we carry in soul, in spirit and from personal experiences.
I know a 40year old man with the energy and spirit of a 20year old man and I know a 60year old woman with better physical health than a 30year old woman. I’ve met wise humans in their 20’s that are more emotionally mature than some in their 50’s.
So if our physical age doesn’t truly define who we are and how we are showing up to live our lives, why do we allow age to take the lead in our choices and in our personal journey? Why are we letting our age hold us back or push us forward into places we don’t belong?
Why are we letting our physical age define and limit ourselves?
Society has taught us to define ourselves by our age
Since we were small children with big imaginative hearts we were told to calm down, keep quiet, behave. We were told, “That’s not how big kids act”. When we’re 18, we’re told that we have to know what we want to study or what we want to do for the rest of our lives. Then we’re told that we are getting older and we should think about settling down and having a family. After that we are told that we should retire or we are told how we should spend our time.
We hear things like, “You are too young for that or you are too old to do that”. We’re asked, “Why aren’t you married with kids by now?” We are looked down upon for not falling in line and for not being aligned with the expectations society, the media, our families and many others have placed upon us. Though, this is not the worst of it. The worst comes when we fall in line because of the pressures we are facing regarding our age. We choose a career we don’t really enjoy right after college, we choose to have children because our friends are doing it, we choose to not try something new because “we are too old to start”.
I’ve heard it all because my life is “unconventional”
I’ve never wanted to live by societal norms. They just weren’t right for me. I wanted to live freely. So I let my heart guide me and I let soul lead the way. Subsequently, I started college late and I took my time figuring out what I really loved to learn about. I traveled around the world for 5 years, letting my experiences teach me. I never settled for less. I didn’t rush to get married or have babies and I didn’t do all of the things everyone else thought I should be doing.
I’m continuously asked “Why aren’t you married or settled down yet? When do you plan to have children? You’re getting older. You’re going to run out of time”.
Here’s my truth. Nobody else is going to tell me how much time I have or when I should be doing something. I trust my inner wisdom. I trust my knowing and I trust my soul to guide me to the right time and places of all phases of my life. How can I trust this? Because I am aligned with soul.
don’t let age define the direction of your life
Let soul guide you. How do we align with soul? Of course, this is a process. One that starts with self-discovery, self-acceptance and then self-love. To be aligned with your soul is to fully honor your true and highest self. The real you. What you really love, what you really want, what makes you feel alive and free. You know, the inner knowing you have about who you are and what you want. The things that “feel good”, that feel peaceful, that feel right. No matter what phase you are in along your journey with self — We all have this inner knowing and this inner wisdom inside of us. This knowing that defies logic, rationality, expectations and the opinions of others. This is soul.
*Not to be confused with ego desires such as: needing to prove or validate oneself, needing to compete or prove others wrong or needing to defy limits to prove power or worthiness of self
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “Follow your heart”, well this is another way of saying “Let your soul guide you”. So never mind what everyone else is doing, never mind what they say, and never mind what they will think. This is how you honor your true self and this is the path to aligning with soul. Soul is all things truth and love. (More about how to align with soul in upcoming blog articles)
Don’t let age limit your potential
I don’t care what anyone else has told you about your age and your inability to do something because this is not an ABSOLUTE truth. You are not too old to start creating a life you have dreamed of. You are not too old to start transforming your mind and body in anyway you’d like too. You’re not too old to try that new hobby, to take that chance or to wait for the right things to come into your life before you settle down. It is YOUR choice to be limited or limitless in this life.
You are not too young to influence elders, you are not too young to speak up and speak your truth. You are not too young to start working towards your dreams and passions and you are not too young to make a difference in this world. Only you know the real you, what you want and what you are READY to do. You no longer need to be limited by your age. The only person that needs to believe in your highest potential is YOU.
overcome self-limiting beliefs
This is what the Crescent Moon Tribe community is all about. Age just so happens to be one of those self-limiting beliefs that I see very often in working and talking to people. In this life, there is no rush to the finish line but the pressures of society try to tell us differently. We are all existing on our own timelines and within our own journeys. All of our timing will be different, none of which is superior or less to the other.
I am 28 years old and I am just figuring out who I really am, what I really love and how I want to impact and guide this world and I’m okay with that. I have a very strong inner wisdom / knowing and I have the oldest soul. I am living proof that our age does not define us. It is our spirits that tell the story of our energy, our wisdom and our abilities in this life. This is why we are EARTH STRONG. I am defying the expectations of age and you can too. As a result, this will inspire others to do the same.
Thank you for being here.
With love always,
